Dessert Museum Back to the museum

Privacy Policy

A quiet gallery that keeps your visit to itself.

Effective date: October 6, 2026

No sign-in, no tracking

No accounts, no advertising and no analytics tools. We don't follow what you browse.

Kept on your iPhone

Your collection, favorites, quiz scores and Muse conversations stay in the app's private storage.

Muse only with consent

The AI guide sends your typed question to OpenAI only after you agree in the app.

1About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Dessert Museum app for iPhone (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use it. Dessert Museum is a pocket museum of the world's desserts: themed halls, exhibit plaques, a personal collection, a gallery quiz and Muse, an optional AI guide.

We designed the app so that it works without knowing who you are. The dessert catalog is bundled with the app, and everything you do in the galleries stays on your device. The only time anything leaves your iPhone is when you choose to use Muse, as described in section 4.

2What we don't collect

  • We do not ask you to create an account or sign in.
  • We do not show advertising, and the app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.
  • We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not access your device's advertising identifier.
  • We do not access your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
  • We do not run servers that receive or store your data, and we do not sell or share personal information.

3Information kept on your device

To remember your visit, the app saves the following in its private storage on your iPhone. This information is not sent to us.

WhatWhy
Your collection and favoritesShows which exhibits you've collected or loved, and which countries are marked on your visitor passport.
Gallery quiz resultsShows your best score and past rounds.
Display name (optional)The name you choose to show on your visitor pass. It is never sent to Muse.
Muse conversations and guide notesLets you return to earlier questions and saved answers.
PreferencesGallery lighting (appearance), haptics, animations, whether you've seen the introduction and whether you've agreed to use Muse.

If you back up your iPhone with iCloud or a computer, this app data may be included in that backup, as with any app. Those backups are managed by Apple and your device settings, not by us.

4Muse, the AI guide

Muse is powered by OpenAI (model gpt-4o-mini). Muse stays off until you read the consent screen (“A word before your tour”) and tap “I understand — begin the tour”. You can explore every hall without ever using Muse.

What is sent when you use Muse

  • Ask Muse / conversations: the question you type, the recent messages of that conversation (so Muse can follow along), and the museum's own catalog notes on the exhibits involved.
  • Exhibit introductions and Compare with AI: the museum's notes on the exhibit or the two exhibits you chose.
  • Surprise Me: the names of the desserts in your collection and among your favorites, so Muse can explain why a suggested next stop suits you.

What is never sent

  • Your display name, quiz results or app settings.
  • Any account details, contacts, location or device identifiers that the app itself could read.

Requests travel directly from your iPhone to OpenAI over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. As with any internet request, OpenAI's servers see your device's IP address when they receive a request. Muse's replies are saved only in the app on your device. OpenAI's handling of this data is governed by the OpenAI Privacy Policy.

Muse only needs dessert questions. Please don't type personal or sensitive information (such as your full name, address or health details) into a question.

5Apple services & sharing

  • Sharing: when you tap Share on an exhibit, comparison or Muse answer, the iOS share sheet opens. The text goes only to the app or person you choose.
  • Ratings: “Rate Dessert Museum” uses Apple's built-in review prompt. Any rating or review is handled by Apple under its own privacy policy.
  • App Store analytics: if you have chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymous statistics and crash reports. These do not identify you.

6Keeping & deleting your data

Your information stays on your device until you remove it. In the app, open Profile:

  • Reset Progress clears your collection, favorites and quiz results.
  • Erase Muse history removes all conversations and guide notes.
  • You can also delete single conversations and notes in the AI Guide tab.

Because nothing is stored on our side, deleting the app is a complete erasure of everything it saved. Questions that were already sent to OpenAI are kept or deleted by OpenAI according to its own policies.

7Younger visitors

The museum is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has shared personal information through Muse, contact us and we will help where we can.

8Security

App data is kept inside the app's sandboxed storage, protected by iOS. Muse requests are sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of data involved as small as possible.

9Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information and to object to certain processing. Since we do not hold your data on any server, you can exercise these rights directly in the app using the tools in section 6, or by deleting the app. You are always welcome to contact us with questions. We do not sell or share personal information.

10This website

This website does not use cookies or analytics. It loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google may receive your IP address when the page loads, under the Google Privacy Policy. If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply to you.

11Changes to this policy

If the app's features change in a way that affects your information, we will update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will also be reflected in the app's in-app Privacy Policy.
